Best interview so far in the Macrosoft world, as I replatform my ancient DBA ass to a place where I'm the Alta Kocker. Four month gig, but worth it to get my feets wet in MS. Competitive position, so won't know immediately.

A Very Techie Weekend
Back home now, entertaining my daughter and her boyfriend. Enjoy chatting about tech stuff, football &etc. with the guy. Also a Midwestern Jewish conservative Republican. Pretty dang good. He's reading the Wall Street Journal now. A keeper, I think.
While being angry at the situation in my incumbent job I had a look at SQL Server and T-SQL, which I last investigated in 2010. Much better in Windows 7, not Vista. Following along in WROX Beginning T-SQL is suddenly easy. Much like long stale Unix skizzles, I am doing better after several years of not doing anything with the stuff. Anyways, this is going to be a leisure time activity while I sweat my nads off at work, but something to pick at as I go forward into the wonderful world of senility and getting my ass out of the current situation.
Girlfriend doesn't like me splitting my time between my house and work location, but will have to work this out in the future. She's a keeper too. Introduced me to NASCAR.

Still Here
Work sucks and basically expect to get the hell out, damn near if I have to chew my arm off. Last weekend was extremely hard - daughter in from college while trying to work through shit on the job from home. Still seeing the girlfriend, and hope to continue. But this is pretty fucking bad at work.
Came to the job as big-time DBA, assholes shifted around the department, now doing test scripting. It's the soiled underpants of I.T.

The job hunt is turning up unusual combinations of skills, and if it says SQL I'll go for it. Also exploring offering up my services in a similar technology as an independent consultant at a low-low-low beat Pune price, 'cause need to get my foot in the door and my face in a Skyline Chili until I can get a couple of years of x-perience under my belt for the new technology. The byteheads in house have been encouraging, which sez a lot 'cause their feet are going to be pounding the pavement for work at the same time I will.
The ex flunked back to the hospital for more surgery after being in rehab a day. This happens all the time. Damn good thing my daughter graduated early from High School. She's already got the better part of freshman year of college under her belt, and I should be able to help through much more before any shiite really hits the fan.
A little excitement on-call last night when tools didn't work as advertised. Had to apply cold, hard logic to the project manager. Damn, that cold hard logic is hard on the knuckles. Martinis tonite, then on to the graveyard shift Wed AM.

All registered for an online tech course at a nearby college. Free downloads and mickey mouse coursework haven't satisfied, as I continue the unending hunt to add points and recentness to a nascient resume what needs it in the event of headcutcounts next year. I hope it doesn't come to that. Also, just have the old Programming Jones.
Freedom is at hand. Only a couple of months of Child Support. Folks, it hasn't been fun. But in any evenuality of headcutcounts, at least I won't go to the pokey if the income drops or is otherwise disrupted. I got off easy lo these many years. It was a choice of this car or that one, not having food on the table or not.
Babe magnitude offering up interesting results. That pretty much means, gals living in situations where I don't want to be. Some of which are damn depressing. Tonight, I get my shots, make sure my passport is stamped, and head off to the strange and exotic other side of town.
Pure Prarie League now announces a concert in a decent sized city. Chillicothe. Hot damn.

Nice performance by the Browns last night. Time to let Brady start for real. Very fine work by the defense. Man, with the cool off this weekend I'm getting in the old football spirit now. My even chance a visit to a Big 10 game. Gotta check out price/availability of OSU vs. Toledo at Browns Stadium.
Lots more free time now and have picked up a more serious do-it-yourself book about alternative database technology. Since work is still unsettled I look on this as a backup technology if I have to hit the road. Ix-nay on the ogrammingpay onesJay this time.
Kid sounds pretty normal in the big city. She's coming up against those big NYC grocery prices but sounds like she's navigating the intricacies of freshmanship OK.
Also told the Plain Dealer to stop delivering unwanted anti-American and Jew hating garbage to my property on Sundays, and to eat shit and die.

Back at work(?) after a busy and chopped up weekend. Koz was smooth. So was Cappy. We plan to see Star Trek next weekend. Looks like a loooong movie, so get those pointy ears on early!

Dull, Dull, Dull!
Yep, pretty dull around here. Going away party for Mario the DBA yesterday. He was a good guy, and all have to look out for their best interests. April is usually a dull month, too warm and wet to really appreciate being inside, and none of the spring or summer activities have gotten underway. Both the girlfriend and I are in wait-and-see mode at work, so no big projects at home or at work. Passover tomorrow, Seder at shul on Thursday. Politics are too farked up beyond belief to even do a coherent rant. I'll leave it to Beaver the professionals.
Over the weekend the MSU/U.Conn game was good, but yesterday's NCAA b-ball championship was one slaughter, which I could not abide after the halftime break.
Also, I agree with this guy. Does this make me a redneck yet? God, I sure hope so.

70's Kinda Mood
Great weekend so far, socked in due to snow, considering. This morning I needed a nice, steaming cup of this:

Gotta download old Chuck. KOTH is reportedly on it's last legs, so need to build up the CaptainSQL library of oldies but goodies. Rascal House pizza and beer last night. This AM hit Eat at Joes for breakfast and am good to go. Warm and fuzzy. Almost turgid enough to watch the Steelers vs. Ravens. This Browns fan is hoping for a sudden volcano eruption to wipe out both teams. Not that I want loss of life. Someone's gotta win and the Tans had their chance this season. See how I did that: demoted the Browns to the Tans. Pretty good, huh? Anyway, mellowness has set in after a rougher than I wanted week. Would like to see the Eagles take it all, just to find out if Philly fans would still be soreheads after the World Series and Superbowl.
Work continues to offer cross training in other DBMS technologies and Cappy is gonna get his heapin' helpin' as long as it lasts. Bring it on! Theresa of Technicalities was in town this weekend for a limited one day only work trip. Would have been nice to meet her, but not possible. Don't know what company she's with, but after the big New England power failure they send her to snowbound Cleveland. Her company sure can pick out great meeting locations! I've offered profuse and grovelling apologies to her for lackofcoffee at Hopkins, and blamed the County for it.

New PC Upd8
Cappy here again, on the old, unstable, rotting system. It was out. Then it was in. Then partly working. Now blogging on Firefox, in living color, over most of these stations. Dang grammar is deterior8ing as we speak. Anyways, setting up the new laptop is a big pain you-know-where and I haven't even gotten to setting up e-mail, e-mule, or interwebs. Did take the occasion to take the Main Squeeze to the Rock Haul of Fame. This time I didn't freak out in the upper reaches. I'm working on that. The Ohio exhibit was sorely missing in Pure Prarie League. Enjoy it b4 they haul the Hall to NYC. The publisher of Rolling Stoned is already whining about having to maintain the large glass pyramid by the shores of Erie. Thing ain't worth shit for corn storage either. Not much else left in downtown Cleveburg, and it may as well join the exodus from these parts. But, hey! Starting next January the rest of the USA can enjoy the same kind of leadership that has made the Great Lakes cities the shining beacon they are today!
