A Very Techie Weekend
While being angry at the situation in my incumbent job I had a look at SQL Server and T-SQL, which I last investigated in 2010. Much better in Windows 7, not Vista. Following along in WROX Beginning T-SQL is suddenly easy. Much like long stale Unix skizzles, I am doing better after several years of not doing anything with the stuff. Anyways, this is going to be a leisure time activity while I sweat my nads off at work, but something to pick at as I go forward into the wonderful world of senility and getting my ass out of the current situation.
Girlfriend doesn't like me splitting my time between my house and work location, but will have to work this out in the future. She's a keeper too. Introduced me to NASCAR.

Thanksgiving, 2010
Back is largely better, but with this holiday followed closely seeing my daughter immediately followed by two weeks of testing hell, I'm babying it along slowly. Lots of anti-inflammatory meds, ice, and as much rest as possible. And stretching. The back that is, not necessarily the truth. I'll leave the latter to the professionals.
Things sure have changed a lot since Labor Day. I'm pretty far from the world of database on the job, astray in the stupid and rashly assigned world of writing test scripts. The bitch of it is nobody is stupid or lazy. It was just a sudden, rash management decision to switch assignments. When I get into an ill defined, undocumented assignment, I cannot help but want to complete it successfully. I can't seem to help it, but this time I don't take it home and worry about it all day and night, like when it first hit. Basically, I don't care much for writing test scripts and need to find another job. And while I'm at it, get one where I can come home to my house at night.
Time to meet the potential son-in-law in the flesh, he of the Hoosier persuasion. Also plan to see the lovely and talented Erica whilst in NYC. Then, like I said, go face down in heavy duty (doody?) testing for two fucking weeks.
Have started to read again. Finished up an autobiography of Eddie Rickenbacker while babysitting a production install. A decent read, and an amazing life. Thomas Edison and Sgt. York rolled into one. Now reading The Book of Lights by Chiam Potok. A much thicker, slower read.
Will have Thanksgiving at a friend's house in Bustown tomorrow. Overall, was going to start up meeting people in Bustown in October, but between being pissed off about work then wrenching my back I wonder if it's worth it. Overall, need to be back at the Fortress of Database Excellence about every other weekend, and next big objective is to shitcan this shitcan of a job an get one in my hometown. I get together with friends in Cleveland when I'm up there, and haunt the regular Martini bar then. Overall, making the best of a mediocre situation.
Anyway, enjoy the turkey, stuffing and assorte pies.
The annual beatdown of MeatChicken is coming up Saturday.

Did meet an interesting gal down there. Claims to be friends with Jimmy Johnson. He's a race car driver, right? Also had Archie Griffin over for dinner a few times. You heard me right, you SEC guys. The ONE AND ONLY DOUBLE HEISMAN WINNER. Read 'em and weep.
The only upside of this shit work is that I am now a lot more proficient in two other technologies.

The ex flunked back to the hospital for more surgery after being in rehab a day. This happens all the time. Damn good thing my daughter graduated early from High School. She's already got the better part of freshman year of college under her belt, and I should be able to help through much more before any shiite really hits the fan.
A little excitement on-call last night when tools didn't work as advertised. Had to apply cold, hard logic to the project manager. Damn, that cold hard logic is hard on the knuckles. Martinis tonite, then on to the graveyard shift Wed AM.

It's Worse than That, Cappy
#1 was at a current version of my first I.T. job. I was in a small, modern office overnight. Dark and alone, wondering why I was there. I knew my boss had died a while ago (which happened in real life). #2 was longer running. I was at my current age, living in a boarding house/dormitory above a Sizzler in St. Louis. The lady next door worked there. They announced a kegger since they were closing down to become a casino. I went up to my room and wandered the halls. Also wondered why I was there when my job was in other cities. Anyway, I know I slept last night.
So, I've got a couple long weekends here. Guess I'll read up on the next version of my current technology, and also fool around with some programming. May also pay a little visit to another technology and try a download. I'm a little burned out from the screwing around with class. Do like the gal I've been seeing lately, but her neighbors sound dicey. I'll have to survey the situation. Seem to be running into a lot of that lately. Maybe this burg is sliding further into the dumper.
Is it just me, or do the remaining leftists others know also seem to be getting flakier. I'm not talking about politics or The President now. Just seems like almost all conversations turn to really edgy bullshit. Stuff sounds like celebrating mental illness, being a wastrel, confusion about sexuality. Got no time for that bullshit. Seriously, not for me. Don't even want to be near it. Also, I don't know why they are so whoopsed up about evolution. I don't know anyone else who is, either pro or con. That includes all Christians and Jews I know. Nobody sees it as a big deal, one way or another.

Freedom is at hand. Only a couple of months of Child Support. Folks, it hasn't been fun. But in any evenuality of headcutcounts, at least I won't go to the pokey if the income drops or is otherwise disrupted. I got off easy lo these many years. It was a choice of this car or that one, not having food on the table or not.
Babe magnitude offering up interesting results. That pretty much means, gals living in situations where I don't want to be. Some of which are damn depressing. Tonight, I get my shots, make sure my passport is stamped, and head off to the strange and exotic other side of town.
Pure Prarie League now announces a concert in a decent sized city. Chillicothe. Hot damn.

We fobbed off Braylon Edwards on NYC. Because I'm sure the Jets fans will be more tolerant and understanding of his fear of getting hit, and also fear of the ball. Yeh. You bet.

But the big story is the self destruction of the Browns. Not less than 4 hours after yesterday's fiasco I heard that at least 5 of our millionaire crybabies had compaints against Mangini, 'cause he was cracking down on they temper tantrums. I'm talkin' to you, Braylon. Then today on the way to shul Doug Dieken pointed out that Brian Robiske wasn't even suited up yesterday. Pardon me. WTF???
Anyway a prominent Reform Rabbi conducts the morning service on Yom Kippur, then hits the links before the afternoon services. He has his best game ever. A hole in one on the 5th. The heavenly hosts are perturbed. How can this be? The assebled angels ask. The Angel Gabriel speaks to the lord. Gabriel says "What manner of folly is this? Should not this man be punished, for profaning the Day of Atonement?"
God speaks unto Gabirel, saying "Who's he going to tell about this?"

For those of you on Farcebook, please excuse baby sister's comment about if Eli Wallach was mom or dad. It's Kumbiyah like that that makes family get togethers unhappy. My other sister's kid is slaving away in Communist China, whining because he has be at his first class by 10:00 AM. Work! For the Pipple, Comrade! Well, you asked for it.

Midpoint
In the meantime, Cappy remains landlocked. Girlfriend continues to look after the grandson, we wait with baited breath the onslaught of work events regarding our futures, and of course life continues with the major transportation duties. Doesn't leave much for exciting blogging. After college starts I've gotta fill up more time with more tech. Have time now, but it's in little cut up bits and pieces. Ran into a friend from the old neighborhood who has also been a long time DBA. If he can go up the hill for more certification, so can I.
I do miss the excitement with the girlfriend from the recent past. That Eagles concert seems like ages ago.

Python, Sinatra
This guy has nailed it. Especially about MySQL scaling. Also anticipating many beatings.
DID YOU SEE LeBron's shot right before the end of the half last night! Instant classic!
