Memorial Day, 2010

In memory and honor of those that gave their lives for our freedom.

Also lit the memorial candle for my father tonight. 20 years gone. A good man, WW2 veteran, and proud to be an American. He was always grateful for the freedom he found in the United States. I miss him.

Nice long weekend. June will be choppy. Daughter is with me most of the month, and the girlfriend gets a new knee in the middle of the month. Still need to let this downstate commute settle in. So far, so good. Beats the hell out of sitting on my hands here.

Got upgrade to Windows 7 and also Outlook, and am in the middle of installing Outlook. Always an adventure in retrieving ancient and long forgotten passwords.

Not much blogging time in my life, and what little there is mostly belongs to FarceBook. Damn glad I took the job. Much of my time is really cramped: home to wash clothes and pay bills and see girlfriend on weekends, work during the week. It beats the crap out of sitting around doing nothing.

So far so good at work. A little choppy in getting information from home. Lest I forget, here is the President's latest B.S. Well all you liberals out there, start your stupid excuses. Only those done in the voice of Chef from South Park and beginning with "Well, y'see Mr. Cappy..." will be acceptable. Not because you have any value, but it's funnier that way.

OK. Onboarding at work now underway, with a variety of hardware, software and my ingenuity (and frequent false starts!) to put 'em all together. Ouch. Haven't done that in very many years. Some don't even use USB connectors! Finalizing plans for the daughter to be home for a month, then off to an internship during the summer. Work promises to be exciting, once one navigates the vagaries of Information Security.

Car oil light went on as I edged off I-271 onto Cedar last Friday, after cat installation downstate. That was the third repair needed on the old thing in three weeks and the end of it. Driving the new one in to first day at work tomorrow. Have to have dependable transport for the weekend shuttle. Attended wedding last night in Mansfield with girlfriend. Man, that is one bombed out city!

Cat installation was today, and it went pretty good. Have hit all the highlights of the new neighborhood. Will be seeking martinis later, after work that brings home $$$ is well underway and established. Big relief to be done with all the apartment setup.

The martini bar in Cleveland was politically correct to the end. Won't be seeing much of them; don't have the time in town. Very sad cases. After the November elections their rainbow unicorn dreams are shot to hell.

No Sheet (rock)

One last minute he-man task here at the Fortress of Database Excellence before I go to CondoWorld full time. Settling causing sheetrock on basement ceiling to fracture, so I took hammer in hand and chunked off the piece threatening a duct.

I rule.

Encabled and interwebbed at the apartment. Boy, this shift is really kicking my home tech into the 21st Century, where it belongs. Cat goes down there on Thursday. He's been a big concern and hope he will adjust to not inhabiting the man-cave, like at the house. Can't really see doing heavy duty poo patrol full time.

Furniture delivered to the SQL pad bright and early, and finished up putting away stuff and returning stuff that didn't work as advertised. Happily located between Easton Center and Polaris, which means easy getaway to Cleveland for the weekends (is this the first time anyone's said this as a good thing?) and also easy access to two nice areas. Very quiet here. Woods. Birdies. Corn Storage.

Saw Dave Frischberg at Nighttown last night for the girlfriend's b-day. An excellent evening, had to hop from this to the Cavs game which was doubleplus excellent. Man, just too much to do! But it's all good. Today unloaded all basic necessities at the apartment, just in time for a power outage.
