Chag kasher v'sameach

Happy Passover! As it is written (here), "Screw Yul Brinner and follow Chuck Heston! He's got more firearms!" Also screw Edward G. Robinson.

Picked up my daughter in the wee hours of the morning. She waas mortified to discover the thin layer of ice on the ground here. Job hunting today, per normal. Did spend the time to complain to the local CVS about the loud, brassy, buttinsky Plain Dealer lady that tries to give away the liberal fishwrap about half the time I go there. Always gives me shit for her not being able to give away her dead-tree version of hate-America bullshine. I politely requested that the manager throw her out, because what I purchase is none of that ho's goddam business.

Or, maybe with the new HusseinCare, it will be.

The End of an Era?

Apparently interview 1 went well. This is the kind of stuff CaptainSQL!!!!!!! lives for. Buffer pools. Massive fallback planning. All kinds of access to early release of new DBMS features. Cannot get it out of my techdweeb mind. This may be a case of go big or go home. Of course it's out of town. Like you expected any innovation to thrive in Bluetown? Hey, peeps vote with their feet.

And it may be fewer and farther between visits to the martinibar. True, they've added back some live jazz. That would be cool to hear but I'll be hosting my kid here in the near future. And there just is no way to prevent the liberal from turning into the food police. Sad but true and you know it. Anyways, as I go further into the realm of unemployment, said martinis may be replaced by Blatz.

There. Calmer now after a nice weekend. Can't stop watching March Madness. It seems to help. Nice and relaxed for an interview this week. Daughter will be here for spring break on Friday morning. Maybe I'll go to my class reunion this summer. Maybe not.

And, to top off the end of a stressful week, my sister called.. Yeah, the one with the idiot/slacker/dumbass/loser/dumbass/hippie/911 Truther/fregan boyfriend. Dammit I hate being civil. I just told her that she could watch Red Forman, or Archie Bunker. Either one works for me on guys like that. Worst of all, he had a colonoscopy and my foot wasn't invited. Didn't feel any relief until I U-Tubed this baby:

Stress this week as I head into possible interviewing next week. Also something may come up in-house. Both would have me on the road during the week.

Spent some time this afternoon talking with one of our guys downstate that is in the middle of outplacement also. His mom passed away recently. It's gotta hurt.

Noting with pleasure the launch of the Wall Street Journal Magazine, a weekly slick that will be another coffin nail for the much reviled New York Times. Pretty good read. Nice pickup truck article. Also had to rescue an e-mail response from a local manufacturing company asking me to go the next step in the job hunt. The actual questionairre was refreshing. Said company was supposed to have demised many years ago. I enjoyed the engineering and project oriented questions, instead of the salute-the-bullshit-slogans-of-the-day or latest, flashiest technology so prevalent in the services sector. Don't know if it will go anywhere, but it was like chewing the fat with the guys in ERP those many, many years ago.

After carefull consideration declined to jump at a reolcation for redeployment in-house today. Other opportunities seem to be coming up, and given the rotten real estate market and likely big pay cut for the relo decided to see what up in the future. Man, there's SQL everywhere! Not just in the old decayed companies here. Hope I decided wisely.

Strategic Air Command level on-call to midnight for a test at work. Lotsa Farmville in the meantime.

Last minute science fair project as work winds down, or tries to. Job opps few and far between. This is going to require creativity. Blogging mostly removed to FarceBook removed to FarmVille.

Spring restlesness setting in, no doubt much aided by soon-to-be out the door at work. First session of outplacement folderol today, but clobbered by a lot of other stuff going on. Nothing critical, but it eats up a lot of time. Did manage to slip off for end of on-call martinis last night. Possible opportunity in more red leaning downstate. Could be an opportunity for the Waffle House and carousing with Redneck.

Countdown to out the door at work continues. This week was sudden death backup on call. But suddenly and without warning was mysteriously slipped into primary on call. Just a little bit irritating. I corrected that this morning, in the wee small hours. Anyways, the job hunt is underway.

We spent a nice day yesterday noodling around Litttle Italy, capped by martinis and ribs. Never knew the two were such a good combo. Then capped that off with the original Producers.
