Whew...
The team passed the first spell of our new assignment. Been rode hard and put to bed wet. About a month away from doing the good stuff at work. This weekend, perspective. In liquid form.

Yup, we won it. Good work by Pryor, et. al. Really beautiful time in town. Got together with friends at The House of Swing last night, Jazz/Blues/Dive Bar from way in the past. Last wall posting was from 1984, coincident with the last time they cleaned it. Cannot beat $2 beer.

The End of an Era?
Apparently interview 1 went well. This is the kind of stuff CaptainSQL!!!!!!! lives for. Buffer pools. Massive fallback planning. All kinds of access to early release of new DBMS features. Cannot get it out of my techdweeb mind. This may be a case of go big or go home. Of course it's out of town. Like you expected any innovation to thrive in Bluetown? Hey, peeps vote with their feet.
And it may be fewer and farther between visits to the martinibar. True, they've added back some live jazz. That would be cool to hear but I'll be hosting my kid here in the near future. And there just is no way to prevent the liberal from turning into the food police. Sad but true and you know it. Anyways, as I go further into the realm of unemployment, said martinis may be replaced by Blatz.

Dinner at my sisters tonight, with deep-fried blue friends. I mean, this is a smurf blue group. I'm tasked with beer provision. Which of these choices will cause more trouble: Shiner, a good, solid Texas brew, or Hebrew, which will invoke strong oaths of denunciation of religion in general?

FB is all FU
It's a mess. Merging real life with bloglife. Like basically, many of the blogfriends who have made it over to FB are a couple dozen good old boys, down to earth. And Erica. Also down to earth in a NYC kind of way. This pretty much duplicates one of the bloodbath ERP installations of my youth. And it had a damn lot of drinking, too. As of late a few survivors of the Real Life project have straggled on to FarceBook. So it's like the regular Seinfield group confronting the Bizarro Seinfeld group. Weird.
Also, amongst the CaptainSQL High School classmates on FB, much mingling of Track 1 (AP types) with Track 4 (2/10" above special) peeps. I blame massive screw ups in testing in the 1950s.

In Memoriam
Rusell Ackoff
OK. You've never heard of this guy. And quit snickering about the name. But I read some of his books back in the daze when I was taking Operations Research, including a class with the Burton V. Dean. Yes, I got my BVD's into OR at the time. He was a big applied math whiz back in the day when a Simplex assignment meant the weekend was shot to hell. That was before more powerfull processors made it possible for every snot nosed AP Poindexter to rip one of those babies out overnight, and even my former brother in law, Dumbass, managed to masturbate his way through an MBA with this stuff. Russ honchoed Buweiser to world domination, leaving in it's wake the likes of POC, Red White and Blue, and Old Style.
But no matter how good we were in crunching the numbers (and other stuff) by hand, we never could optimize our chances with hot babes.

The Pale Stale Ale
For the pale stale male. That would be me right now. Not too much of that beer, or any other either. Work is stale, waiting for shoes to drop. Girlfriend taking care of her grandson, who is a great kid. Most of my time taking the papoose to and from job, then will take her to college in August. Pretty stale. Yup.

Still running around like crazy. Listening to Brubeck now. Like this guy sez. I heartily concur. Stand corrected after the latest visit to WallMart. It's not only beer and Clamato, it's all of the above with lime and salt! See, that makes it all better. Also found, and hopefully lost at WallMart: Boones Farm.

How about a nice, refreshing
glass of puke in a can? Saw this today at the local Wal-Mart. Who thinks this up? Who can keep it down?

You Tube Now Much Richer in Bob Shreeve Lore and Gore!

In 1963, Shreve's combined experience in vaudeville, comic improvisation, and salesmanship crystallized when he became one of the pioneers of all-night broadcasting. It was then that Shreve made his first appearance as the bartender host of WCPO's The Schoenling All Night Theater, which ran from 1:30 am to 6:00 am on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. Taking a page from Jackie Gleason's popular skits with Frank Fontaine on The Jackie Gleason Show, Shreve would greet the viewer as a visitor to his bar, and prepare to pour the first of the evening's mugs of Schoenling beer by singing the show's theme song, set to the tune of "Sailing, Sailing":
"Schoenling, Schoenling / That is the beer for me / It has the taste of malt and hops / Of finest quality / Schoenling, Schoenling / My choice for purity / I've tried the rest, Schoenling's best / It's Schoenling beer for me!"

Thanks to all the respondents for the kind words on my kid's college acceptance, et. al. Pretty impressive KOTH yesterday with Hank bitching out Buck Strickland. Never thought I'd see the day. This week Cappy is on call, starting tomorrow so it's beer night tonight.

Lost the cell phone last night, apparently in the parking lot of Nighttown where me and the SQLBabe celebrated pre-New Years festivities, before being off to see Doubt. Very good movie, Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman's little bro Phyllis Seymour and all that. Very intense. Streep got real intense, but she didn't blow up real good. Also, she (not Meryl) presented me with some Palmetto Ale, from her trip to Hilton Head. Just in time to enjoy while Iowa rolled up the Big Ten's only win in the bowell season to date. S.C. performed smelly. You could say they got gamecocked.
Back to work tomorrow, for me to enjoy while it lasts.
Happy New Year to all.
