Graduation Imminent

Another big week of excitement underway now. Tuesday is conferences and a reception for my daughter at the Clinic, for her internship. Parents will be allowed in for the reception to bask in the warm glow. I like to bask. You could say I'm a baskard like that. Then Thursday she's in the graduation ceremony in one of the neat old theaters on Playhouse Square. Work is pretty inert now, giving Cappy time to handle all this while the ex is still in rehab. But not inert enough to request strongly my presence out of town in driving distance for a Wednesday face time. If possible I'll do that but this leaves an almost unbroken record throughout my career of whiny facetime demands landing on top of birth, death, divorce, and other major events. I'm not gonna flip 'em off to they face, which is why I blog about it here. But the graduation ceremony, and anti-kegger patrol takes precedence.

And it's a beautiful day here in blueland. Had a nice walk. What with all the events that's about all I'll be able to fit in.

You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up!

The Goode Family rolls on to an unsuspecting Obamanation tonight. An, I predict, safely over the heads of the targets. These clowns are supposed to be in the Midwest. Their adopted African son is white. His name is Ubuntu. Is Judge following me around, or what? Some relatives may want to consult lawyers for a defamation suit, if they could ever understand they are ground zero of the series.

I'm deep into summer shutdown. Three months until my daughter heads off to college, with me providing all the transportation from now until then. On the edge at work, still waiting for more shoes to fall. Girlfiend is hosting her grandson and we are in the early stages of that, although have chunked out time for a concert later this summer. So I'm pegged for the near future.

So I'm looking at short term amusement. Our local artsy-fartsy theater (theatre?) is hosting Plan 9 from Outer Space. This is the king of stinkeroos. Ed Wood is the worst way to get wood. But it raises this question: Can these hippies wreck Plan 9? Can you make a fiasco even worse? How would one do it? Discussions about the impact of Plan 9 on Third World Cultures? Vegan alternatives? A drum circle? Help me here, guys.

Memorial Day

A day to pay tribute to those that gave their lives for our freedom, and to reflect on that sacrivice.

|

Judgemental

I have been saddened for some time by the imminent demise of KOTH. But I did see promos for a style of animation that seemed familiar, and Mike Judge has come forth again. This time he is breaking it down for those too stupid to pick up when they are being mocked (liberals). He is making it so simple even Joe Biden could get it, maybe. And on MSM, so they don't have to get confused by the multiple cable channels.

Still busy taking my daughter here and there all over the place. We're trying to get the school admin to let her attend graduation. They hand out blank pleather folders for the diplomas but send the real ones later. So she can get the actual diploma later, but it would be nice if she could attend the ceremony. The teachers at her school have been great. Can't say enough about them.

Martinis are out while doing this but the 1970s are back with Madria Sangria. This is eminently drinkable. Just don't bring back disco. Lonnie Anderson can stay, as can all those Smokey and the Bandit flicks. Pure Prarie League ticket sales start in June, giving me plenty of time to locate Van Wert. They're brining Poco with them. Good. Also briniging Firefall, which should have been abandoned in the 70s along with the Vega and the Pinto. Shit, if they're going to do Firefall, why not just start the damn drip IV of estrogen when the concert starts?

Finally off call but the emergency at-home takeover continues. And the interfering assholes ranted about previously are pouring in, those muthas.

No martinis either.

At least Tony Kornheiser is off MNF.

Wrapping up on call tonight. Ex wife went into hospital Frinite so I'm doing emergency driving around of my daughter. Very tiring. Girlfriend's dad is up from Florida so I got the royal grilling about Paul Brown knowledge on Friday.

On call going well so far. The weekend is the acid test. Later tonight a birthday party for my girlfriend's grandson, who will be staying with her the rest of the year. I've tracked down Pure Prarie League to a concert in VanWert this September. This can accomplish two goals: hearing them in concert, and corn storage.

Very busy and chopped up Sunday. Took my daughter here and there, mostly she was shopping Very KOTH midday in Eastlake. A sign at Walgreens advertised propane. Later my sister here called to chew the fat and possibly get together for my birthday. Her son is graudating college. On the way there she will attend an academic conference about food. The only thing she knows about food is eating it. I offered my thoughts about the food of the future to her.

I boldly predict that people will continue to eat food, because FOOD IS GOOD! Really, who needs a conference for that? My guess is that it's a planning phase for the food police. I bet in a couple of years those that think they know better will be yanking the burgers out from our cold, dead hands and rationing Tofu, or some other variety of spackling.

So if you are reading this, be warned. Eat now. Eat eat eat! Eat like there will be no tomorrow, because that may be the case. Get that extra pizza to go. Order that plate of knishes, even tho you've been on the Turnpike all day! And if you're lucky, you will die face down in a trough of Skyline Chili.

Gentlemen, to the Waffle House!

There's Klingons

off the Starboard Bow...

Saw the latest Star Trek this afternoon with the girlfriend. Totally worth it. Campy, corny, and a lot of fun. I'm sure they'll find a way to wedge in Shattner some time. They sure shoehorned in Nimoy on this one. Still, lotsa fun.

Daughter is with me this weekend. Then most of the summer. Then off we go to NYC to deposit her at college. Saw the craziest thing driving home past a local college this weekend. Kids offloading sofas from their dorms and parents actually moving the flea ridden things back home. What ever happened to good old American ambition. Find that sofa at the start of the scholl year and keep it on the porch. Then burn the sucker at end of year. I tell ya, the yout of today... No way am I hauling some beer and pee stained relic on top of the car across two states and through some tunnel into Manhattan.

Last night I accompnied to a dinner at (excuse me, the cat is reading this blog as I am writing it. Very upsetting.) a more religious home than mine. That would be almost all of them. It was good rollicking fun anyway. Cappy davened his way through a speed service, actually following the major prayers such as The Shema, Kaddish, and Alenu. Not bad for creeky religious school education from the distance of 40 t0 50 years. Dinner was nice. Absolutely no politics. Good. And refreshing too. Ate some of the densest kugel known to man. Immoblized for a good couple of hours.

Python, Sinatra

&etc. as we mellow into the weekend. Shabbos dinner with one of my daughter's frummy friends. Haven't done that in years. He, boy from the old neighborhood. She, NYCgal. Can it work out? 8 kids sez yes.

This guy has nailed it. Especially about MySQL scaling. Also anticipating many beatings.

DID YOU SEE LeBron's shot right before the end of the half last night! Instant classic!

Hey, you legal eagles out there, can creating The Committee to Horsewhip Tony Kornheiser get me in trouble with DHS? I mean, he really deserves it. Also Tivisonnno. For some reason,, Triv talks total BS, but I still listen. It's like watching a train wreck.

This post is the result of martiniblogging. The guys at the bar think I'm in the clear.

The Long, Dry Summer

Will be this year, most likely. Taxiing my kid to her job and back. Girlfriend is doing grandma duty this summer. I'm hitting the martinis while I have the chance. This doesn't include next week, which is on call.

Back at work(?) after a busy and chopped up weekend. Koz was smooth. So was Cappy. We plan to see Star Trek next weekend. Looks like a loooong movie, so get those pointy ears on early!

Back at work, and can't get the RealMenofGenius earworm out of my head. So here goes:

Real Men of Genius
- Mr. Project Manager Panic Guy

Here's to you, Mr. Project Manager Panic Guy
When lesser men do their pansy planning and scheduling
You... step forward to promise immediate deadlines
And when the going gets tough
The smart get going - right off your project.
Watch them hit the door!
You, and you alone can compress design and testing
And initiate both 24 hours before install.
Cram it down the users' throats!
You do all the heavy lifting
Like calling two-a-day panic meetings
And ordering the pizza for the all night on site weekends
3 large pepperoni!
So for all you do to projects, Bud Lite
Salutes you, Mr. Project Manager Panic Guy!

And Some of That

Programming. In Python. The install went down smooth and easy, like a dry martini, or... Got a real zing when the first print line came back. How cool was that? Code monkey for life.

I'm Ready for Some of

This:

As I head into this Dave Koz Smooth Jazz weekend at the Fortress of Database Excellence. And what better way to spend time while awaiting something to happen at work. Gotta itch my programming Jones too next week. PhP or Python? Things ratcheted down to quiesce at work, also at home as we prepare for me to taxi my daughter all over town this summer.

Before I zone out at work, how's 'bout a big hand for ... me!

Or, even better!
