Ran into the pharmacist that I worked for back in the late 1960s at lunch. Those were the days when I was a mere lad, stocking the shelves, reading MAD Magazine, and ogling the babes. Boy, it was great to see him. I remember one hot, sultry summer night in '68 when we remodeled the entire damn place overnight, tore down all the shelving, laid new tile, and put up and stocked the new shelves. Man, could I lay tile then. He's still pretty sharp.

Cannot wait to see what The President comes up with in terms of cars the parody of a bunch of sleazy politicians trying to design a car. Some things just need to be left to the professionals, such as ridicule at this stratospheric level. But, the good peeps of Ohio can come to the rescue. After all, car design may be too much for our exalted leaders. Maybe they should stick to their stools.

You Had to Ask

And now, the thrilling conclusion to that 6th Grade Science Fair project:

Is this Linux compatible?

It feels like a cheesy, 60's SciFi type of weekend. College costs are being calculated. The SQL girlfriend may be taking a hit at work. I hope not. Pretty dismal. A couple of the DBAs did slide off to other companies, so this may make it a better chance to survive personally. Friggin'
SQLCat wants to blog something.

What Really Happened to Cappy's Hedge

|
Jush blogging around, waiting for a change request to close. We lost two DBAs to other companies today. It's gotta be expected, and it's a good sign that the market hasn't completely shut down. Since my daughter is going to pack it in here in The Greatest Location in the Nation and head east this fall, I'm gonna see what kind of high-flying muckymuck work I can find then, instead of making do in Pokeytown. I'll miss some of those smartass DBAs when they gone. Still grooving to Tuesday's concert. So is the SQLBabe. Lotta enjoyment there. Next month, maybe Dave Brubeck.

Eagles Assisted Living Tour. Totally worth it. The audience has mellowed after a few decades. Fewer bras on the stage. Joe Walsh still a wild man (New Joisey's gift to Kent State). Still mellowed from the experience.

Less Hot Damn

CSU ends it's season short of the Sweet 16. Thanks for a great ride, Vikes!

Miscellaeous

Still grooving off the big Friday news. Saw DUPLICITY last night. Not so hot. Story jumping around in time. Paul Giametti as ruthless exec. Didn't quite sell it to me. Big changes where my girlfriend works, not good ones. She will almost certainly hold on to her job. My next version certification study guide continues to rest genly on the kitchen table, of heft northward of 925 pages. Certification not necessary in my native technology, but is an indication to employers that I'm alive and functioning. I know most of what is in there but don't use all features of the DBMS daily (who does?) so this is a lot of book cracking. Really dry. Martinis should be dry.

AIG should be renamed Aggravating Insurance Group. When you whine to the government for four consecutive bailouts worth 1/4 Trillion dollars you are opening yourself up to said government interference. If you have been working in any enterprise of any size for any amount of time, you should know that with any sudden bullshit change of direction you have to salute the boots or walk the plank. Large incomes don't exempt you from this. One way or another, through jerry rigged evaluations or congressional mandate, you will walk the line.

The actions of the ACORN Community Organizer mobs are frightening. So are recent church and synagogue invasions by leftists and Muslims. The Castle Doctrine needs to be upheld. James A. Rhodes, where are you now that your are needed most? He stopped campus riots in the 70's cold at Kent State. I hope our current flock of governators are up to it. I know "Buck" Strickland isn't.

Riddle me this about the AIG fuckups, Batmench: Why not just offshore they jobs? We've been doing it across the board in IT for years. Clearly AIG was staffed by fuckups. India could do the job for a fraction of the price. And, since quantitative analysis is a job that is supposedly one Americans won't do, isn't it logical that we will have to be dependent on India to do it for us?

Double Hot Damn!

CSU Advances!
The good news from yesterday is still sinking in. Always thought my daughter would do well, and this is terriffic. After the martinis wore off this morning began to realize that I'll have a lot more leeway in terms of the next job, if and when the meataxe comes at work. I could even hop on planes and perform SQL elsewhere. Even in your town. Frightening. It makes it hard to go into a doom and gloom mode with all this happening with the daughter, and the SQLBabe. Good.

The SQLDaughter strikes again, this time capturing both admissions to the Honors Program and a full scholarship. HotDamn! Martinis tonight. That ensures loitering around New Jersey blogmeats for the next several years. Also, having been to the big apple I can locate cheap greasy taco stands for that big smelly BM I've promised to deliver on the Columbia U. campus.

Opened the windows at the Fortress of Database Excellence today for the annual dose of fresh air. Ahhhh... Did pre-St. Patricks Day beer consumption last night. Still in laid-back mode. Next week, The Eagles concert. Hubba hubba.

Sunday PM pre-week mellowout. Waiting for KOTH et. al. cartoons, also the Larry the Cable Guy roast. Almost too good to be true. Still cannot get into the swing of fear about impending job doom. It may not happen. What can I cut out? Car maintenance? Eating entirely? I'm not real extravagent as it is. Except with big words like extravagent. Life has been pretty dang good lately too. Just hard to get whoopsed up right now. One of the DBAs that was let go started another gig a week later. I know it doesn't happen to everyone, but I'm just sayin'. Also, what technology to pick up? Who knows? This is so much across the board that all technologies are probably equally hit. I'll start poking at certification for the next release of the DBMS soon, but that's a real pill.

President Obama: He's Got What Plants Crave

Life is pretty good now, work going good although probably on borrowed time, and the kid is doing great. Still with the SQLBabe. Just not feeling that old-time depressiony right now. But listen to President Obama. He's got what plants crave!

Services were good tonight. Lots of congrats from the congregation and Rabbi about my daughter's graduating early & YU admission. Is one of these guys Cotton Hill? Served in the Airborne, and is from Texas. Both a Longhorn and Buckeye. Then he starts complaining about his son who was right there, saying how he should have shipped the boy off to VMI for college, and how all the Yankees ruined Texas. WTF?

Tension all 'round at work as we await shoes to drop during tomorrow's performance reviews. And waiting to hear the final verdict on financial aid for my daughter. The weekend beckons. I may post complaints about the Elementary School on some other website. As long as it's out there and Googleable I'm satisfied. Don't really need to bore avid readers of this blog with local inside baseball.

Ripping

Ripping CDs, making up for musical losses of the past, creating travelling music for the NYC trips to come. On deck now: Grand Funk, The Eagles, The Kinks, Jethro Tull, and Tom Petty. All good listening. Work continues to be stagnant, which beats hitting the bricks. Still plenty to amuse myself with.

Yarzheit

Lit the candle for my mother's memory tonight. Frinite is her Yarzehit service. I still do miss her. The ensuing Kumbiyah has only gotten worse, to the point where family get-togethers are no fun. Here's the blasts from the past, 2005.

Monday, March 21, 2005
Mom's funeral was yesterday. It was a commemoration of a joy filled life, and she brought happiness to all who knew her. It was a long day.I simply cannot believe that many people can't get beyond their hatred of George Bush and of America, even in a time of grief. I do not comprehend why proficiency testing of school children is evil, why Bush devised it in a nefarious plot, or why it is important to discuss this before and after my mother's funeral. Toward the end of the evening the entire discussion was leftist lamentations over lost elections. I want to avoid these people as much as possible. Their behavior was ghoulish.

Gone

My mother passed away this morning. She never had a bitter day in her life. Her memory will be a blessing.
