Daughter arrived safe and sound yesterday, and we're now in the throes of fasting for Yom Kippur. OSU performing a normal crushing of an incompetent Illinois team. Part time techitude at home is stumbling along. I'll probably plunk down the money and take a course early next year. Do it yourself installs at home not cutting it any more. OSU will probably maintain ratings over Cincinnati due to some ranking of other big 10 teams, none for the Big Easy.

But the big story is the self destruction of the Browns. Not less than 4 hours after yesterday's fiasco I heard that at least 5 of our millionaire crybabies had compaints against Mangini, 'cause he was cracking down on they temper tantrums. I'm talkin' to you, Braylon. Then today on the way to shul Doug Dieken pointed out that Brian Robiske wasn't even suited up yesterday. Pardon me. WTF???

Anyway a prominent Reform Rabbi conducts the morning service on Yom Kippur, then hits the links before the afternoon services. He has his best game ever. A hole in one on the 5th. The heavenly hosts are perturbed. How can this be? The assebled angels ask. The Angel Gabriel speaks to the lord. Gabriel says "What manner of folly is this? Should not this man be punished, for profaning the Day of Atonement?"

God speaks unto Gabirel, saying "Who's he going to tell about this?"

You Read It Here First

As predicted several posts below, the UC Bearcats are within 4 slots of OSU's rankings. Lazy, shiftless dumbfucks at MSNBC were slow to pick up on this, but there is considerable smack being talked about state bragging rights. The two meat up for real in 2012.

My daughter will be here Sunday, for her two week holiday break.

A good weekend despite irritation Frinite and the Browns inevitable fiasco today. Nobody gets through life withou some of that. Missed these guys in VanWert this summer. It sure would have been nice to see them with the gal I was with this spring. Enjoy, anyway.

OSU cruising against Toledo just past half time.

I transported an old friend of the family from the old neighborhood to my sister's for dinner on FriNite. Planning ahead, I stuffed myself at lunch. We arrived for dinner at 6:00 PM. Her slacker boyfriend arrived for dinner at 8:00 PM. Nothing new there. Various and sundry wastrels attended. Sister revved up a couple of times but never did get into full bore leftwing righteous indignation rant. That was nice. That she didn't. The family friend asked me what grandpa wold have thought about said slacker. I estimated that my sister's ex was too tall to make it practical, but that slackboy would have ended up with a foot up his ass.

I did rent Grand Torino for comic relief, but it wasn't needed. I watched anyway.

Services were good, swift, and mercifull. The rabbi exhorted the congregation to support Israel, and those that support Israel. Even if they do stuff like hunting and whatnot. Squirm, squirm, squirm went the hippies.

Did all my chores now. Time to take it easy. This weekend football features the University of Cincinnati vs. OSU. Oregon State, that is. As Erica and my daughter can attest, I will wait as long as it takes to deliver a wisecrack, practical joke, or pun. I've waited nearly 40 years for this one:

Go Team! Eat the Beavers!

Happy New Year, Take 2

Yesterday full of SQL tuning goodness into the evening. That's why I take the day off before religious holidays, to avoid the age old Jewish Techie ceremony of screaming around corners on two wheels trying to make it home for Erev after a rescuing a life-of-the-company project crisis. Today I'm ready: honeycake deployed for dinner at my sister's, and since the entire family can't get together for it I have rented Grand Torino. No piercings on any relatives, AFAIK, and as far as I would want to know either. If some of those wastrels ever got a real job that would be the big surprise. Idiot piercings, not so much.

Surfed into the High School reunion site for my class last night. Went to my 25th, which was good. The 30th sucked. Not planning to attend the next one. I'm in touch with those I want to care about. Also, Farcebook acts like one big floating reunion. The obits did get to me. There was a close friend that died shortly after college graduation. I contacted a lot of our friends for the funeral. Very sad time.

Also listed were a friend from elementary school, the guy that shook me down the first week of Jr. High, and the girl I dated in Jr. High.

Tempus friggin' fugit.

L'Shana Tova

And soon, before I completely loose any spirit. The Browns performance yesterday didn't help. Neither did the presence of deadbeats Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards on my fantasy team. Will have dinner Frinite at my sisters here. Sounds like a lot of Kumbiyah. I don't want to do Kumbiyah. She, or her slacker boyfriend, or said boyfriend's mom will let fly with some bullshit. I'm going to park on the street for easy egress. I could waste pixels referring to the usual "learn from scum, third worldies, harass everyone moving east of Warrensville Center, Tofu" trope, but Mike Judge's Goode Family captures it better. Also mourning the end of KOTH.

Then I trapse off to shul Saturday, hoping the greasy ponytailed truther stays the F off the Bimah and Shuts the F up about his stupid theories. If he can't the Rabbi, who is pretty reasonable guy will get a complaint, and I'm out for Yom Kippur. The congregation is pretty good in general, but once in a while Larry from Dharma and Greg stands up and shoots off his friggin' yap.

So there. Rant over. I know. If I don't like it I ought to man up and become frum. Sorry. In general, not looking forward to it.

Happy New Year anyway.

Buckeyes were credible last night against USC. Good, hard hitting between the 20s football for most of the game. Too bad about the very end. It could have gone either way. Still, the answer for the Big 10 is to play more serious non-conference teams. Make it so. The ghost of Warren G. Harding commands it! Also, while anesthetizing myself to the inevitable during the game, I came up with the brilliant downsizing strategy; in the event of downsizing, I can revert to a former life as a Systems Analyst, if need be. And I can utilize by awesome SQL writing skizzles, too. And wouldn't have to worry about relearning the same command in the 907 variteies of Unix, either.

Bubmling along with a software install. Book oriented to Windze XP, I've gotVista. Stuff is not in the same place. Painted the back hall this afternoon whilst The Big 10 didn't cover itself with glory. MeatChicken State got downed by a MAC team, same almost happened for Northwestern. Wisconsin not impressive against Fresno State. That team up there is behind Notre Dame at half time.

Martinis later, for OSU vs. SC. Maybe a lot of them will be needed.

The kid calls from NYC and is OK. She's having a good time there too. Always something going on. She'll be in for Yom Kippur and a couple of holidays that follow. Should have the place cleaned up by then. Went to a retirement lunch for one of our systems guys today. Really nice guy. I'll miss working with him. 39 years and out. Not too much of that any more. Fiddling around with a DBMS install at home, none of the service account setup on my OS version looks like anythiing in the book. Crap, I'll probably have to buckle down and pay for a class. May as well, not going to do much when the snow flies.

Been surveyed by Rasumssen and by the University of Kansas this week. Damn, if I ain't popular!

I love screwing with data.

Do It

for Warren G:
Only 12 years away from the last time OSU fell to an in state team. No, I wasn't at that game or Warren's inauguration. But the Buckeyes continue to schedule a weak non-conference schedule. So let's see the Beercats play the Buckeyes sometime before 2021. The Buckeyes need some encouragement to prove themselves against credible non-conference teams early.
The Beercats crushed, 45-15 over Rutgers.

Outstanding

Opening drive by Cincinnati in the Rutgers game! They really have something going here. Did go to the Air Show, worth every penny of it. My next car should be an A-10. Also saw Extract. Mike Judge sure is getting quirkier in his dotage. All told, with lunch at McDonalds is $41 the hippies will never see.

Installing free vendor DBMS software as we speak. Does this post seem slower to you? Leftover football today: A couple of games in Florida, and Cincinnati vs. Rutgers. Plenty of action packed Big Easy action. You bet! Will probably amble down to the Air Show soon.

For those of you on Farcebook, please excuse baby sister's comment about if Eli Wallach was mom or dad. It's Kumbiyah like that that makes family get togethers unhappy. My other sister's kid is slaving away in Communist China, whining because he has be at his first class by 10:00 AM. Work! For the Pipple, Comrade! Well, you asked for it.
