Well, What did you expect?
You Are a Sarariiman! |
Or "salaryman." Whatever. Treadmill off, treadmill on. Most of the sleep you get is on Tokyo's extensive subway system, since you are putting in 14 hour days. You're a workaholic who works hard for no overtime. And vacations? Forget about it. You spend most of your trip hunting around for gifts to bring back all of your coworkers. |

And I don't think much of LOTR either!
The SQLCat's teeth are flossed and gleaming
And Cappy's prose is brown and steaming
And that's about as much poetry you are going to get out of this alteh-Techie, faithfull viewers. A nice, quiet couple of days off are drawing to an end, ferrying the SQLDaughter here and about as she decompresses from a week longrampage through NYC religious retreat and gets back to reality before the semester lapses to it's exhausted conclusion early in 2009. And speaking of exhausted conclusion, the crack(ed) SQL team at work faces the uncertain future of next year, while the monotonous thump of reality knocks unceasingly at the side door, looking for more fries to go with that.
I have no idea what the above means, but it sounds great. And since most of the MartiniBarPatrons as well as my relatives are eagerly awaiting the ascendance or ass-endance of The 0bama in January, it must be a good season for gibberish. So I thought I'd contribute my two cents. Here's yer bailout!
One of the boys my daughter likes bears a striking and scary resemblance to a certain collander-wearing blogger. And this guy writes similarly for the local college paper. Cappy... must... investigate.

Seasons Greetings
There, that's what I was looking for! Wasting most of Saturday with the whatever Bowl. I think the Navel Lint Bowl is on now. Expanded the big music collection with .38 Special. Yesterday at the bar was notified by one of the BarBabes that I was acting too old. Just 'cause I remember Ghoulardi. Well, BFHD. Like I care what a bunch of PeoplesRepublic liberals think. As long as they keep them martinis flowing.

No, not what I had in mind.
Who hacked my box of candles with UM colors? PT? Gotta track down official OSU Woody Hayes brand candles soon.

A nice, quiet day off. Finally broke down and made latkes. Not too bad, and this time in batches less than industrial strength. Chinese food party at shul yesterday was nice. Not getting into too much trouble this year, and things are going OK, except for this little problem:
Doctor, can you help? Planning to make bread later tonight. If the dough doesn't rise, I will seek medical advice.

Happy Chanukkah, and Christmas, and Holidays.
Better late, or midway through the holiday, then never! Been busier than uh, some guy who is really busy, so couldn't blog much lately. Daughter and girlfriend are out of town (not together, duh) and I've been busy filling in parent type documents for Y.U's honor program and The Clinic's internship program for her. Big nachas there. Soon I take off for shul, for the traditional Chinese food and movie.
Enjoy this one. My kid was at a Minyan at CSU that Matisyahu sponsored and he signed her Siddur. Nice accent with this guy's davening. When exactly did he get off the boat?
Also, as a Systems Analyst many years ago I developed mind reading. No big deal. I gave it up after getting too many X'40' returns.

I Need an Intervention
Somebody please stop me from watching the Browns.
Maybe late KOTH can help, or martinis.

Not quite time for an end-of-year blog, but close enough. Finally emerged from totally setting up the new system, almost. And a pretty decent year otherwise. Still choking down a paycheck, daughter doing great, seeing a gal I like, and as far as possible for man to determine, likes me. Daughter just stuck her face in the door and explained the difference between geekiness and nerdiness. Thanks. Been waiting years for that. She'll be off in the greater NYC vicinity tomorrow wreaking havoc on a religious retreat for the next week. Girlfirend is out of town too. Time to follow up on serious martinis.
Reading is going very slow, and this time worth every prolonged nanosecond. The selected book, River Horse by William Least Heat-Moon. Savoring every paragraph like a booze-hound savors drinks that really get him there fast. I mean, it's damn good, man. His original Blue Highways really spoke to me many years ago. Did one of those across the diagonal of the Great Buckeye State on Rt. 42 after college graduation, and one across that state up there while freezing my ass off during a mid-70's move from St. Louis to Detroit.

Hokay. Here's
One of my bookshelves. I have more. Yes, that would be Linear Programming and Extentions, by Dantzig. Wrecked all my weekends in '74. Kid and her AP punks took it in the 10th grade.

Attended the LinkedIn networking event last night, in the old Powerhouse, at the Rock Bottom Brewery. Didn't look like there were going to be many techies there, and there were not in real life either. Cheep beer, though. A sad place, the Cleveland Flats these days. The old Harbor Inn still stands down there, the original source of merriment and foreign beer from days gone by. It was there when the Flats was being Yupped out, and Gang Banged, and now abandoned, and probably will continue to exist long into the future, Blue as it is. Vamoosed fast from the festivities as the light dusting of snow caused mass traffic panic on east through The People's Republic. Still have more to install on the new laptop. Printer, drivers, what not.

The weekend has been ok to pretty darn good. Saw the latest Batman movie yesterday. Nice, but too long by a half. Not much to blog about here. All are awaiting their fate in the unknown murky climate of 2009. Pretty quiet weekend.

New laptop is largely installed and working fine. Does this Vista Operating System make me look fat? Not much time for blogging lately. Busy installing software and replacing appliances and what not. Not a great hobby for a man in a shaky company looking at next year, but hey, somebody's gotta do it. Work is rife with rumors. College football is dormant until the bowl games and The Browns look dormant period. Kumbiyah is rampant. Looking for a flimsy excuse to avoid the holiday season with my liberal relatives. Local State Representatives have been busily at work protecting the slimeballs that wasted my tax money this fall with the Joe Plumber witch hunt. Stay tuned. It's going nationwide in January.

New PC Upd8
Cappy here again, on the old, unstable, rotting system. It was out. Then it was in. Then partly working. Now blogging on Firefox, in living color, over most of these stations. Dang grammar is deterior8ing as we speak. Anyways, setting up the new laptop is a big pain you-know-where and I haven't even gotten to setting up e-mail, e-mule, or interwebs. Did take the occasion to take the Main Squeeze to the Rock Haul of Fame. This time I didn't freak out in the upper reaches. I'm working on that. The Ohio exhibit was sorely missing in Pure Prarie League. Enjoy it b4 they haul the Hall to NYC. The publisher of Rolling Stoned is already whining about having to maintain the large glass pyramid by the shores of Erie. Thing ain't worth shit for corn storage either. Not much else left in downtown Cleveburg, and it may as well join the exodus from these parts. But, hey! Starting next January the rest of the USA can enjoy the same kind of leadership that has made the Great Lakes cities the shining beacon they are today!

ManBashCourt
Your Cuyahoga County Common Please Court, led by such cruds as Judge Christine McMonagle have hit upon this nifty cost saving replacement for jurisprudence in the Domestic Relations branch. Cuts costs and leave more money for criminal fatass Jimmy DiMora.

My home PC continues to deteriorate, but it hasn't gotten in the way of a perfect KOTH moment at work. Jimbo went out to his truck in the parking log, and Mar and Russ were watching for him at the window. Mar said "Jimbo went to his truck, but he didn't go anywhere.". The Russ said "yup". Then Mar said "yup". Then I, said, of course, "uh-huh". It doesn't get any better thant that!

Boy oh boy, DAMN! Big Martini trouble in my town! My fave bartender is a dead ringer for TV former weatherman Mark Nolan, and Mark voiced a few mild doubts about global warming. Said bar is in The Peoples Democratic Republic of Cleveland Heights. Shit. I can smell the torches and pitchforks now!
