Alottabrats Weekend
Yesterday nearly answered the musical question, can one have too many bratwurst sandwiches during the summer? I took a break (and my laptop) from wating for extreme project beeping delays to savor some fine brats at the market near downtown, and later more brats were featured (along with beer) at the party.
I wish we had the sausage race, like they do at Miller Stadium in Milwaukee.

Nice and easy weekend. The party yesterday was OK. Did a little cleanup here at home. The much touted "big weekend" didn't product a page so this probably means all nighters this week. I'm ready for 'em.
I'll be playing with MySQL next weekend.

I got a form from my daughter's school requesting that they send me her report cards and all school announcements. It's about damn time the bastards sent that out. Each year I had to request it by letter, and each year they were about a month late in sending info. With all the high priced leagal assholes that send their kids there they should have done this about 7 years ago.

I may get a chance to poke around MySQL soon. A friend recently bought it and wants some help. This is the guy who actually got Cappy introduced to the world of systems (it's his fault). So, I can't keep my hands off a new toy. Surveys of database boards show this is a long way from paying the bills. But, Cappy needs to keep on working.
I spent a little time removing dead links from this blog and adding recent blogs of interest. HTML is pretty crude but blogging is not (yet) my life. I've got too much other stuff going on like having my time with my daughter threatened, submitting to the whims of itinerant project managers, and watching my lawn go to seed. Bah, Cappy does not have time for your puny scripting language!

Strange doings are underway with my daughter's savings account, for which I am the Custodian. The ex wants her account number. Very suspicious.

Yesterday was chasing around too much. A massive new project (200 tables, 100 packages) broke loose unannounced. No plans, no phones or e-mail for the programmers, lotsa deadlines. The usual. Cappy sprang (lurched?) into action. My daughter will be with the ex this weekend, then off to camp for three weeks, so I can now pull overnighters to save the day. I also wasted yesterday afternoon taking the ex to the clinic for a test. I'm just too much of a nice guy. Phooey.
The kid is having a great summer big time!

My kid was outstanding in the major event this weekend, and was totally buzzed about it! This is great. Since then my life has been sliced to ribbons, as usual. Cappy had to don the tights and cape today to save ass on another project without a plan or estimates but lotsa urgency!

They'll Do It Every Time!
(with a tip of the DBA hat to Jimmy Hatlo)
Without fail there will be a stinko crisis at the very last possible minute, literally, before a major event in your life. I picked up the phone at work, despite the posting below as I was on the way out. Our ever trusty secondary (and I use the term liberally) technology had erased the file systems for two of my test instances. Don't laugh, this has happened repeatedly! This is before I'm out for a major life event for my daughter (see below). Then the guy reporting it noticed he was looking at the wrong server.
I'm now safely in the CaptainSQL Batcave, a hardened bunker three stories below. And I'll be showering off the flop sweat for the next hour.

Note to Techie Divorced Dads
It is my considered opinion that for major life events concerning your kids, just be out of communication with work. If the event is on a weekend, take off the preceeding Friday. If you are at work or reachable you are responsible for attending to any problem or question no matter what the magnitude. Then you will be responsible for following through on the spot. It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. But it's best to instill cringing fear in your enemy's heart.

Michael Newdow
It is too bad that Newdow's case was refused by the Supreme Court. My interest in it was for him to establish parental rights. Actually, I see nothing wrong with leaving "under God" in the pledge.
But Newdow, for all his guts and legal abilities is about to be sold out by his former supporters. He crossed the line. He did not buy off on the entire leftist agenda. He needed to get in line with them. Now he'll pay big time when his former friends stab him in the back.

Yes indeed, another wonderful Sunday. The weater is cooperating and the job is going smoothly once again. I haven't had a lot of big attitude from my daughter, so that's good. I could be downshifting to a slower pace after these years of chasing after her and supporting big projects at work. That leaves very little time for other, which I do sporadically, with some other (e.g., sociable life) taking precedence over other other (e.g., fixing up stuff around the house).
I've run out of reading material a while ago and have been furiously searching Amazon.com and local bookstores. A lot of literature seems to have been Oprahfied. At least the stuff on the tables at Borders.

Not much blogging lately. Real life has been intruding too much, and in a week my daughter stays with me during the weekdays for the summer, so I've been busy getting things put together for that. And I've been talking way too much with the ex about a major event for my kid. I never feel comforatble talking with the ex.
A survey on Monster.com shows MySQL and PhP not to have much in terms of market share in the DBMS world. So I'll be staying with primary and secondary technologies. In fact, with new features, I'll need to grow additional knowledge capacity!

Still busy with beginning of summer stuff. I'm getting curious about MySQL and PhP. Anyone out there know what the market for that stuff looks like?

Sunday is working out nicely with the kid. She's getting ready for camp. I've been trying to impress on her that she will actually have to go outside, and won't have TV at camp. This should be a new experience for her.

Big meeting with the ex today with the kid in tow about a big event that will happen soon. I hate meeting with her. It's really destructive. If there aren't agreements the kid loses out. If there is one it's always a ripoff and I usually regret it after her "friends" show up with their fucking agendas.
|
Another extra night with my daughter. This is good, but it's strange. It's not like the ex to give up time. I'm getting big attitude from the kid as a major life event and the summer looms. What else can one expect after 8 years of phoney-baloney court ordered largesse?

I plan to put my brain on hold for the summer.

Attended the "Volunteer Appreciation Day" at my daughter's school. Divorced dads need a "Volunteer Rejection Day" to commemorate the many times they've been stiffed on volunteer opportunities or even notification of them by the school. I stayed as long as I could then left. It has been many years of the big freeze out by this school and I'm paying for it.

Secured medication for mom today. Otherwise, tired.
